The Delusion Hank Wehman MD 9781534989276 Books Reviews
The Delusion is a novel that will keep you flipping pages as this book of psychological suspense plays out. Dr. Andrew “AJ” Beasley is a respected psychiatrist with a steady practice and a bachelor life. He’s brilliant and dedicated, but as a reader, I suspect his life is somewhat routine even with the diversity of patients he sees. Then one day Valerie appears—a new patient he diagnosis as suffering from a delusion. Or is she?
AJ’s world is abruptly turned upside down.
What follows is a twisty road of cat-and-mouse between AJ and Valerie, and a pursuer who has every reason to want Valerie dead. The author does a superb job of layering on the suspense and clearly knows the field of psychiatric medicine. Tightly written, with descriptions and pacing that are spot on, this is a riveting novel that places the reader dead center in each scene. I thought the character development was especially well done, and look forward to reading more from this author!
Fast read wanted to finish to see the outcome. The medical info was well done and appropriate to the story but was stunned by the end. Very good read check it out.
This book keeps you on the edge of your seat. Well written, descriptive and an intriguing story that keeps you guessing what will happen next.
Great first book Dr. Wheman!
How is a person declared dead, not dead? How can you believe in the unbelievable? This story will have you spinning in circles at the end. This novel is very twisty indeed!
This is a good read, a page turner. Dr. Andy Beasley, MD psychiatrist, grapples with diagnoses and boundaries with an attractive delusional patient. He and Valerie won me over with their convincing voices and moves and the twists of an investigation that takes them far beyond office visits. Is she being chased by a dead man, or what? When the shooting starts, you're hooked till the final page. I'm hoping Dr. Wehman can provide a little peer supervision now for "A.J." and steer him toward another investigation. The joy of the book, or even a future series, is getting inside the mindset of a profession not usually involved in chase scenes. Great local color in Pennsylvania.
Hank Wehman brings us into the professional yet humdrum life of a practicing psychiatrist, A. J. Beasley, who bounces from caffeine to scotch as he prepares himself to see his patients and then turn his motor down in his bachelor apartment at the end of his workday. A. J. is not looking for new adventures. After many years of practice, he wants a predictable daily schedule of interviews and prescriptions. But day he takes on a new patient, Valerie Clinton, who knocks him out of his routine and dredges up from his depths dimensions of his personality that had never been diagnosed.
So, Dr. Wehman takes us on an exciting adventure that presents, in narrative form, a rare psychiatric disorder that takes a highly-competent professor of psychiatry to diagnose.
The Delusion is a gripping story not easily put down. I found, as I read the last chapter, that I did not want it to end. Did I become deluded? Suspense is addictive . Dr. Wehman should serve up more.
This book keeps you on the edge of your seat. Well written, descriptive and an intriguing story that keeps you guessing what will happen next.
Great first book Dr. Wehman!
